We’re having a baby!

Now that we finally have the website up, I’d like to go back and fill in past events in our lives. So here goes…

Spring 2006

John and I learned that we were finally pregnant after nine months of trying! We were SO excited. Well, the truth is, I found out we were pregnant on a Sunday and surprised him on Monday with the news by taking him out to dinner at his favorite restaurant and having them write a message in chocolate sauce on his dessert plate! He was very surprised and excited…and we went right up to the book store to buy “Your Pregnancy, Week by Week”!

While there was a part of us that wanted to keep the news a secret until the first trimester was over, we simply could not contain ourselves and told close family at only 6 weeks and extended family and friends found out on Mother’s Day, at 10 weeks.

The first trimester went by with only a few little bumps in the road. While I was never actually sick, I was quite nauseous many nights right before going to bed. And boy was I tired all the time. I’ve never been one to take afternoon naps but there were several crashes on the couch when I’d get home from school, and I’d still be ready for bed at 7:00!

We had an early ultrasound at 8 weeks where we got to see a tiny baby blip on the screen and a little heartbeat. That was very exciting. And at 12 weeks, the Doctor couldn’t find the heartbeat with the Doppler machine so we got to have another ultrasound! During that ultrasound we saw the heartbeat (sigh of relief) and we saw the baby doing flips (just like a little free flyer!) which was so bizarre to see on the screen because I couldn’t feel her moving yet!

We then happily moved into the second trimester…free of nausea and out of the “danger zone” of pregnancy…
